Hard Hat Mack Part 2 ----The Void Productions --Derrick Ward

V1.0 1-16-2000

*converted to ION by Sam Heald (sam@calc.org)

The Story Thus far::: You are Hard Hat Mack - just a regular old guy who
works as a construction worker for a living. In the early 80's a friend
slipped acid into your coffee one morning and you embarked upon your first
adventure. It was three colorful levels of wonderful and weird
construction worker mayhem. Fast forward to fifteen years later.
Satan invades your construction site and threatens the completion of your
building. You proceed to pic up your trusty shotgun, defeat Satan, and
save your construction company. What's next? A quest that's what. A holy
quest from God. You must find the holy grail. Pick up all of the grails
that have been scattered throughout your construction site to find the one
and only. Of course, there will be many evil zombies, drones, and drunken
teenagers in the fifteen levels out to stop you.
Fortunately, you still pack a big ass gun....

kill enemy - 100 pts
heart - 500 pts
umbrella - 1000 pts
extra life - x Very rare in the first game but more common now.
up warp - touch it and you go up two beams
down warp - touch it and you go down one beam
Frown face - :( looks like this except vertical. You really don't want
to pick up this item. it makes you lose
diamonds you collected! Avoid at all costs...
Diamonds - The main purpose of the original game are now really bad news.
They make you lose 10 seconds of
time off the timer!!! Avoid at all costs...
black ball - Makes you lose 500 points! Its not as bad as the diamond or
frown. Its mainly designed to confuse you and make you mess
up while trying to avoid getting it.

You start out with two lives.

The left side of the screen shows the following information from the top
down:
bullets, diamonds needed to beat level, score, and timer
(when it reaches zero you die)

Yes, that's right, that's an elevator at the far left of each level.
You can use the elevator to your advantage (or disadvantage) to reach
otherwise inaccessible areas in the levels. You must be all the way to
the left in the elevator to operate it.

Enemies:
Enemies can descend/ascend stairs and go up warps but are not allowed to go down
warps. Enemies also may not use the elevator. They get faster and faster
as the game progresses and your time limits dwindle.

New to Hard Hat Mack 2 is the ability to jump. This ability comes in handy
big time to get places in a hurry, leap over gaps, and avoid the nasty new
items that are lying around. WARNING!!!--Do not try to jump over bad guys!
You're not super freakin' Mario you know.... You won't make it....
It takes some practice to master jumping. You will need to master the long
jump (jumping over two items at once) to complete the game.

Saving Your Game:
You can save your game at the beginning of each level
by pressing the STO button. Do not move an inch or you won't be allowed
to save your game (no cheating allowed)!! You won't notice that anything has
happened but the game has been saved. You may not save your game unless you
have progressed to level four or above. To retrieve your game press the STO
button from the title screen.

Highscores::
Pressing mode from the title screen will put you in screen capture mode.
You can then use your link program to capture your highscore as proof to
send to me. I will post the highest scores, along with the names of the
people in huge bold print on The Void Productions web page. All you have
to do is email me the image file...

Tips:
-Master the long jump. This is very important if you want to get far in
the game. Its easier to do with a running start.
-explore each level and plan the easiest route
-sometimes there are more holy grails than you need in a level so its
ok to pick up a frown or two
-There is a skip level code and an infinite ammo code! You'll never figure
out what they are on your own though. (They're not the same as the one in
part one) If you really want to find out what they are come to me on
your hands and knees and proclaim me your master. Then ask nicely and I
might tell you....
